- Know all 9 vocabulary words/terms: genocide, purification, propaganda, embargo, blockade, ghetto, UN Security Council, International Criminal Court, atrocities
- Know who first outlined the 8 Stages and when he did so
- Stage 1: Classification
- Understand and describe “us” and “them”
- Know the 4 ways used to classify people
- Know 2 ways to prevent classification
- Stage 2: Symbolization
- Know the 5 ways groups are symbolized
- Be able to give 1 example of each symbol
- Know the 4 groups of people the Nazis gave symbols to
- Know 2 ways to prevent symbolization
- Stage 3: Dehumanization
- Know how “us” group makes “them” group seem subhuman
- Know ways propaganda is spread
- Know the 3 ways victim group is described
- Know which “negative” terms are replaced with which “positive” terms

- Know what is necessary of all genocides

- Know what lists are made for the first time

- Know what is stockpiled at this time and what is built at this time

- Stage 8: Denial
- Understand when during the genocide denial occurs
- Understand the tactics of denial

- Know 3 ways the victims are blamed
- Be able to briefly describe the Rwandan genocide and key groups involved (Hutu, Tutsi, Belgians)
